The New York Jets’ new coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey are taking a fresh approach to evaluating star quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Despite Rodgers’ impressive career, including four MVP awards, Glenn emphasized that no player is bigger than the team. Rodgers, who missed most of the 2023 season due to injury, had a mixed performance in 2024 with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, leading the team to a 5-12 record. His contract for 2025 includes a $35 million option bonus, a $2.5 million salary, and a $23.5 million cap charge. If released or retired, there’s a $49 million cap hit, spreadable over two years. If he returns, the cap hit in 2026 would be a hefty $63 million. Owner Woody Johnson has left the decision on Rodgers’ future to Glenn and Mougey, who are currently evaluating all players.
