Aaron Rodgers’ Jets Tenure: 18 Starts, 6 Wins, and a $49 Million Dead Cap Hit

Aaron Rodgers, the future Hall of Fame quarterback, is unlikely to remain with the New York Jets in 2025. Over two seasons, Rodgers started 18 games, leading the team to six victories. His time with the Jets was marked by a highly publicized Achilles tear in his first game, a 32-20 win over the Miami Dolphins in the 2024 season finale, and a total of 3,897 passing yards and 28 touchdowns, both third on the Jets’ single-season list. However, his performance was uneven, with 11 interceptions and a 48.1 Total QBR, ranking 25th among NFL passers. The Jets’ offense struggled, finishing 24th in scoring and ending the season with a 5-12 record. Rodgers’ departure will leave the Jets with a $49 million “dead” money hit, which can be spread over two years if he’s designated a post-June 1 cut. This would mean a $23.5 million cap hit until June 1, 2025, followed by $14 million in 2025 and a $35 million charge in 2026.
