Arizona State’s football team, under the guidance of second-year coach Kenny Dillingham, experienced a dramatic turnaround in the 2024 season. Predicted to finish last in the Big 12, the Sun Devils instead finished with an impressive 11-3 record, earning the No. 4 seed and a first-round bye as the Big 12 champion. Despite their No. 12 ranking in the final CFP committee rankings, they proved their mettle in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl against Texas. The Sun Devils outgained Texas 510-375 in total offense, controlled the ball for nearly two-thirds of regulation, and shut down Texas’ run game. Senior running back Cam Skattebo, who finished fifth in Heisman Trophy voting, had a standout performance with 143 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns, and 99 receiving yards, earning him the Peach Bowl offensive MVP honors. Despite a valiant effort, Arizona State fell to Texas 39-31 in double overtime, ending their College Football Playoff run.
