Max Klare, the top-ranked tight end in the NCAA transfer portal, has committed to Ohio State. Klare, a redshirt sophomore from Purdue, will have two years of eligibility remaining. In 2024, he led the Boilermakers with 51 receptions, 685 receiving yards, and four touchdowns. His commitment follows Ohio State’s recent College Football Playoff win over Tennessee. Klare chose Ohio State over offers from Texas, Michigan, Louisville, and Texas A&M. His decision was influenced by coach Ryan Day’s track record of player development and the offensive strategies outlined by coordinator Chip Kelly and tight ends coach Keenan Bailey. Klare, originally from Guilford, Indiana, played high school football at Cincinnati’s St. Xavier High School. He redshirted in 2022 at Purdue, played in five games in 2023, and had a breakout year in 2024, finishing sixth nationally among tight ends in receiving yards. Ohio State also added West Virginia transfer tailback C.J. Donaldson, Idaho State defensive end Logan George, and Minnesota offensive tackle Phillip Daniels on the same day.
