Arizona State University and football coach Kenny Dillingham have agreed to a new five-year contract. This deal includes a pathway to extend to 10 years, despite Arizona law limiting state school contracts to five years. The contract will place Dillingham among the top earners in Big 12 coaching salaries. His current base salary is $4.05 million, but he has already earned over $2.5 million in bonuses for leading ASU to an 11-2 season and a Big 12 title. The bonus is expected to exceed $3 million with academic bonuses in the spring.
The new deal reflects ASU’s commitment to football, with plans to add 20 more scholarships next season, increasing the roster to 105. The university also plans to increase staff commitment and participate fully in revenue sharing. ASU’s football operation budget for 2024 has increased by over 45% compared to 2023.
Dillingham, a Scottsdale native and ASU graduate, has long considered ASU his dream job. His career moves have always aimed at returning to ASU as head coach. In his first year, ASU went 3-9, but this season, they turned it around to win the Big 12 and earn a bye in the first round of the College Football Playoff.
