Ohio State Favored by 9.5 Points in CFP National Championship

Ohio State is set to face Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff National Championship, opening as a 9.5-point favorite. This spread would tie for the second-largest in CFP history and rank fourth in the CFP/BCS era. In past championships, Georgia was a -13.5 favorite against TCU in 2022, and Alabama was -9.5 against Ohio State in 2020, both covering their spreads in blowouts. Notre Dame has a strong record against the spread this season, going 12-3, matching Arizona State and Marshall for the most covers nationally. They are undefeated against the spread against ranked teams (7-0) and as underdogs (2-0), with both underdog wins being outright victories. However, they suffered a significant upset as a 28.5-point favorite against Northern Illinois. Ohio State, on the other hand, has been a favorite in every game, covering the spread in all CFP games, including their semifinal win over Texas. Betting markets show Ohio State as a popular choice, with 28.2% of the money and 16.8% of bets at BetMGM to win the title.
