2024 College Football: 44 Touchdowns and a Heisman Finalist

In the first year of the 12-team College Football Playoff format, the 2024 ESPN All-America team showcases the top players at every position. Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter leads the team, having excelled at three positions but listed at one. Miami’s Cam Ward, a Heisman finalist, tied for the FBS lead with 44 touchdowns, throwing for 4,313 yards and just seven interceptions. Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty came close to Barry Sanders’ NCAA rushing record with 2,601 yards and 30 touchdowns. Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith, a true freshman, averaged 17.3 yards per catch with 14 touchdown receptions. San José State’s Nick Nash became the fourth player in FBS history to win the receiving triple crown. Penn State’s Theo Johnson set a Big Ten record for tight ends with 100 receptions. Texas’ Kelvin Banks Jr. won the Lombardi Award, and Michigan’s Mason Graham is projected as the top defensive tackle in the 2025 NFL draft. Defensive standouts include Penn State’s Chop Carter with 23.5 tackles for loss and Notre Dame’s Xavier Watts with six interceptions. Special teams were highlighted by Michigan’s James Turner, who was nearly perfect on field goals, and USC’s Eddie Czaplicki, who led the nation in net punting.
