Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith set a new game record for a freshman with 187 receiving yards in the Rose Bowl. The Buckeyes crushed Oregon 41-21, marking their second consecutive blowout win in the College Football Playoff. Ohio State surged ahead 34-0 in the second quarter, with Smith catching 5 passes for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns by the 10:28 mark. Oregon managed only 60 total yards at that point. Smith’s performance included four touchdown catches in his two playoff games, averaging 22.3 yards per catch. Ohio State’s defense was formidable, recording eight sacks and holding Oregon to minus-23 rushing yards. The Buckeyes now prepare to face Texas in the CFP semifinal at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl on January 10.
