Top 10 Passer in Power 4 Transfers to Indiana

Fernando Mendoza, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound redshirt sophomore quarterback from Cal, has committed to Indiana. He was the third-leading passer in the ACC this season, throwing for 3,004 yards and 18 total touchdowns with six interceptions over 11 games. Mendoza led Cal to six wins and a bowl game in their first ACC season. He was ranked as the No. 3 quarterback in ESPN’s transfer rankings. Despite being sacked 41 times, the most among FBS quarterbacks, he maintained a 69% completion rate and averaged 273.1 passing yards per game, placing him among the top-10 Power 4 passers. His notable performances include a 233-yard, two-touchdown game against Auburn and a 285-yard, two-score effort against Miami. His younger brother, Alberto Mendoza, is already a backup quarterback at Indiana, influencing his decision. Indiana, coming off an 11-2 season and a College Football Playoff appearance, is rebuilding with 30 newcomers, including 13 from James Madison.
