Bengals’ $26.17M Franchise Tag Strategy Revealed

The Cincinnati Bengals are set to make significant financial moves this offseason, aiming to retain three key players: wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, and defensive end Trey Hendrickson. Higgins, who will hit free agency on March 12, is expected to receive the franchise tag if no long-term deal is reached by March 4. This tag would allow negotiations until July 15, with Higgins playing on a $26.17 million salary for 2025 if no agreement is made. Chase, after a stellar season with 1,708 receiving yards, 17 touchdowns, and 127 receptions, is likely to become the NFL’s highest-paid wide receiver. Hendrickson, with back-to-back 17.5 sack seasons, could command a salary above $30 million per year. Joe Burrow, who signed a five-year, $275 million contract in 2023, has suggested restructuring his deal to provide cap flexibility, potentially converting money into signing bonuses to lower his cap hit.
