The Houston Texans have claimed wide receiver Diontae Johnson off waivers. Johnson, who was waived by the Baltimore Ravens, had a brief stint with the Ravens, playing only 39 snaps and catching one pass for 6 yards. The Ravens had acquired him in a trade with the Carolina Panthers on October 29. Before joining the Ravens, Johnson played for the Panthers, where he recorded 30 catches for 257 yards and three touchdowns. His NFL journey began with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who drafted him in the third round of the 2019 draft. Over four seasons with the Steelers, he amassed 391 catches for 4,363 yards and 25 touchdowns, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2021 with 1,161 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. Johnson will be an unrestricted free agent after this season. The Texans, needing receiver depth after Tank Dell’s season-ending knee injury, outbid the Los Angeles Chargers for Johnson’s services. The Texans’ current receivers include Nico Collins, John Metchie III, Robert Woods, and Xavier Hutchinson.
