Wingbits, a blockchain-powered aviation data network, is set to launch a satellite to enhance the accuracy of flight tracking. The satellite, part of a collaboration with Spire Global, will be launched on SpaceX’s Transporter-13 mission from Vandenburg Space Force Base in California. This initiative aims to verify data from Wingbits’ 2,200-strong ground-based node network, managed by flight enthusiasts in over 90 countries. These enthusiasts track approximately 120,000 unique flights daily. The satellite will cross-check this data to prevent spoofing, ensuring the information is more accurate than that of competitors like FlightAware and Flightradar24. Wingbits rewards its data providers with Solana testnet tokens, which can be exchanged for various services. The company recently raised $5.6 million in a seed round to support this project.
