Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has embraced the role of adoptive father to Moo Deng, a five-month-old pygmy hippo at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand. Buterin’s donation of 10 million Thai baht ($300,000) will fund upgrades to the zoo’s operations and create a dedicated habitat for Moo Deng. This generous act follows the warm hospitality Buterin experienced during the Ethereum developer conference in November. Moo Deng, known as “bouncy pork” in Thai, became an internet sensation, inspiring the MOODENG memecoin on Solana, which peaked at a $600 million market cap. Despite a 60% drop in token value from its peak, Moo Deng’s popularity remains strong in Thailand and nearby regions. Buterin has also set aside 88 ETH for further support.
