A memecoin named MIRA, created on the Pump.fun platform, skyrocketed from zero to an $80 million market cap after Siqi Chen, founder of Runway, shared his daughter Mira’s battle with a rare brain tumor. Despite an 80% price drop from its peak, the token raised over $1 million for research at the Hankinson Lab at the University of Colorado. Chen received 50% of the token supply from X user @Waddles_eth, which helped boost the token’s visibility and value. The MIRA token attracted $7 million in liquidity and saw trading volumes exceed $85 million in over 130,000 transactions. Chen committed to selling $1,000 worth of MIRA every 10 minutes to ensure continuous funding for the research. The community’s response was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the potential for memecoins to contribute to meaningful causes.
