The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has sent an email to nearly all federal employees offering resignation buyouts. Employees must respond with “resign” in the subject line by February 6 to accept. This offer excludes military personnel, U.S. Postal Service employees, and those in immigration enforcement and national security roles. Those who accept will retain all pay and benefits until September 30, 2025, without in-person work requirements, essentially receiving about nine months’ pay without job duties. The White House expects up to 10% of federal employees to take the buyout, potentially saving the government $100 billion. Employees can seek outside work during this period and can reapply for government roles in the future.
