350,000 Amazon Employees Face RTO Delays: Here’s Why

Amazon announced in September that it would require its employees to return to the office five days a week starting in January. However, the company lacks sufficient office space to accommodate over 350,000 employees. As a result, RTO dates have been delayed in at least seven cities, including Phoenix and Austin, Texas. Employees in Dallas won’t have enough space until March or April, and a New York City office won’t be ready until May. Delays also affect Atlanta, Houston, and Nashville, Tennessee. An Amazon spokesperson stated that most employees will have office space by January 2, but those in locations not ready will be informed directly. The company claims that most delays are due to office layouts being adjusted for part-time workers rather than a lack of space. A study of over 3 million high-tech and financial workers suggests that such RTO mandates can lead to doubts about leadership’s decision-making capabilities.
