This spending spree pushes their payroll toward the $100 million range, a significant increase from their previous years of low payrolls. Rooker’s deal also buys out three years of potential free agency. Before joining the A’s, Rooker had a tumultuous career, bouncing between teams without consistent playing time. His performance with the A’s, including 39 home runs and 112 RBIs last season, has solidified his value to the team.
