Dejounte Murray’s Injury: A Statistical Blow to the Pelicans

New Orleans Pelicans guard Dejounte Murray suffered a season-ending torn Achilles tendon during a 118-116 loss to the Boston Celtics. The injury occurred when Murray chased a missed shot, fell, and grabbed his right foot. He averaged 17.9 points, 7.4 assists, and 2.0 steals per game this season. Murray’s absence significantly impacted the team’s performance, with the Pelicans averaging 114.0 points in games with him, compared to just 102.4 points without him. This drop would rank them last in the NBA for scoring. The Pelicans, already struggling with a 12-37 record, have been without key players like Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, and Herb Jones, who have not played together this season. Murray’s injury adds to the team’s challenges, as he had been on a hot streak, tying his career-longest run of games with at least 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.
