$54.7M: The Shocking Lowest-Grossing Weekend of 2025

This weekend marked the lowest grossing at the domestic box office year-to-date, totaling around $54.7 million across all films. This figure falls below the Super Bowl Weekend’s $55.8 million, despite it being during spring break. Paramount’s “Novocaine” led the weekend with an $8.7 million opening, following $3.9 million on Friday and $2.89 million on Saturday. The film, starring Jack Quaid, achieved a B Cinemascore with 84% positive feedback and a 58% definite recommend rate. “Novocaine” was produced for $18 million before marketing costs. In contrast, Focus Features’ “Black Bag” opened to $7.5 million, aligning with tracking expectations. It received a B CinemaScore, 75% positive feedback, and a 51% definite recommend rate. “Black Bag” cost $50 million to produce. Warner Bros.’ “Mickey 17” earned $7.5 million in its second weekend, down 60%, with a global total of $90.5 million on a $118 million budget. Ketchup Entertainment’s “Looney Tunes: The Day the Earth Blew Up” opened to $3.1 million, with a B+ CinemaScore and 89% positive feedback, alongside a 72% definite recommend rate. Pinnacle Peak Pictures’ “The Last Supper” grossed $2.8 million, earning an A- CinemaScore. A24’s “Opus” disappointed with a $1 million opening and a C+ CinemaScore, with 64% positive feedback and a 44% definite recommend rate.
