Sen. Richard Blumenthal has requested detailed information from Visa regarding its partnership with Elon Musk’s X to provide payment services. This inquiry comes as X prepares to launch a digital wallet. Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut, highlighted Musk’s involvement in weakening the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), a key regulator for X’s financial services. Visa, which operates the world’s largest credit card network, announced in late January its agreement to facilitate peer-to-peer payments on X. Following this, Musk’s operatives reportedly accessed CFPB data systems, raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest and the security of financial data. Blumenthal’s letter to Visa CEO Ryan McInerney also questions X’s ability to prevent fraud and scams, given its history with bots and hate speech. Visa has acknowledged the letter and plans to respond appropriately.
