Only 2 Treasury Employees Allowed Access to Sensitive Data

The Department of Justice (DOJ) and plaintiffs in a lawsuit have agreed to temporarily block the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing Treasury Department records. The agreement, approved by US District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, restricts access to payment records to only two “special government employees” within the Treasury Department, Tom Krause and Marko Elez. Both are limited to “read-only” access necessary for their DOGE duties. This compromise ensures that sensitive financial data of Americans remains confidential, preventing unauthorized access by DOGE or any third parties. Elez, previously associated with SpaceX and social-media platform X, now consults for DOGE within the Treasury. Krause, CEO of Cloud Software Group, oversees Elez but does not have direct access to the payment system. This order aims to protect privacy while allowing DOGE to continue its mission of eliminating government waste.
