Elon Musk Casts Doubt on $500 Billion AI Project

Elon Musk has raised concerns about the financial backing of a massive $500 billion AI project called Stargate, announced by former President Donald Trump. The initiative, involving tech giants like OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank, aims to build AI infrastructure in the U.S. Trump highlighted the project’s potential to be the “biggest of all” and emphasized competition with China. However, Musk, who was notably absent from the announcement, stated on X that the project lacks the necessary funds, claiming SoftBank has secured less than $10 billion. Despite this, Oracle’s Larry Ellison revealed that 10 data centers are already under construction in Texas, with plans to expand to 20 locations. The project promises to create hundreds of thousands of jobs and could significantly impact health and medicine, but there are also concerns about AI causing job displacement.
