Brazil’s true crime genre is experiencing a significant boom, with the market now featuring titles like “Brazil: Elize Matsunaga,” “Killer Ratings,” and “A Life Too Short: The Isabella Nardoni Case.” Two major production companies, Diosual Entertainment and Medialand Production, have formed a strategic partnership to co-produce multiple true crime doc series, feature films, and series for various platforms. Medialand, led by investigative journalist Carla Alburquerque, has established itself as a key player in the genre, boasting YouTube channels with a combined 1.79 million subscribers. Their content has been featured on platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and Warner Bros Discovery. Diosual, founded in 2017, brings its expertise in fiction and broader audiovisual markets to the partnership. This collaboration aims to expand the reach of investigative documentaries and develop scripts for films and series based on real cases, enhancing the genre’s quality and impact both in Brazil and internationally.
