$1.1B in China Alone: ‘Ne Zha 2’ Becomes No. 7 Animated Film Ever Worldwide

The Chinese blockbuster ‘Ne Zha 2’ has grossed an astonishing $1.1 billion in China through Sunday, making it the first movie to ever reach $1 billion in a single market. It’s now the No. 7 animated film ever worldwide. Projections suggest it could reach $1.65 billion in China alone, potentially making it the No. 2 animated movie globally and No. 11 overall. ‘Ne Zha 2’ has also set a record as the highest-grossing local language release in IMAX format, earning $63.9 million in just 12 days. Meanwhile, Disney’s ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ added $8.5 million internationally, bringing its global total to $671.1 million, with $700 million in sight. ‘Paddington in Peru’ has crossed $100 million overseas, and ‘Dog Man’ has expanded to 41 markets, grossing $66 million globally.
