The UK drama industry is facing tough times as Fictionhouse, a drama label backed by Newen Studios, closes its doors. Founded in 2020 by Dominic Cooke and Kate Horton, Fictionhouse aimed to produce projects across film, stage, and TV. However, with the founders now pursuing solo theater projects, the label is winding down. Newen Studios, soon to be rebranded as Studio TF1, confirmed the closure. Despite this, Newen and its investment arm, Ringside Media, remain committed to co-developing film and TV projects with Cooke and Horton. The UK TV drama sector is struggling with financing, with 80% of projects currently in limbo due to shifting streamer strategies and high costs. Despite these challenges, Newen Connect continues to support UK projects, including upcoming dramas like “Bruno” and “Cooper & Fry.”
