Statistics reveal a proposed 5% levy on the UK revenues of streaming giants. This recommendation comes from an 18-month inquiry by lawmakers into British film and high-end TV. The levy, similar to those in Scandinavia and France, aims to support the industry. However, the report notes a lack of consensus on this measure. Streaming services like Netflix have opposed the levy, warning it could lead to price increases for viewers. The Culture, Media & Sport Committee’s report also discusses potential upgrades to tax credits and the roles of the BFI and CIISA in the industry. Meanwhile, the global film market faces challenges, with China reducing the number of U.S. films allowed into the country in response to escalating tariffs. Currently, U.S. tariffs on Chinese products stand at 145%, while China’s tariffs on American products have risen to 125%. These developments could impact the international film industry’s dynamics.
