22-Year-Old Amateur Stuns Golf World with 7-Under 65 at Dubai Desert Classic

David Ford, a 22-year-old American amateur, made a remarkable debut at the Dubai Desert Classic. He shot an impressive 7-under 65, tying for the lead with Ricardo Gouveia and David Micheluzzi. Ford, ranked No. 6 in the world amateur rankings, started with a 40-foot eagle putt and added five consecutive birdies. This performance put him five shots ahead of defending champion Rory McIlroy, who scored a 70. Jon Rahm, playing his first round at the tournament, was 3 under after 14 holes. Ford, a senior at the University of North Carolina, earned his spot through his No. 1 ranking in the PGA Tour’s university standings. He has previously competed in three PGA Tour events, with his best first-round score being a 1-under 71 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
