Joson Sanon, a 19-year-old freshman, has transferred from Arizona State to St. John’s. During his time at Arizona State, Sanon averaged 11.9 points in 28.3 minutes per game. He shot 36.9% from three-point range this season. Sanon, ranked No. 23 in the 2024 high school class, did not visit other schools after entering the transfer portal. St. John’s, led by coach Rick Pitino, finished as the No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament after winning the Big East regular-season and conference tournament. However, they lost 75-66 to Arkansas in the second round, shooting only 2-for-22 from beyond the arc. St. John’s is set to lose at least three starters who played between 27 and 32 minutes per game. The status of their top scorers and NBA prospects remains uncertain. Over 1,150 Division I players have entered the transfer portal since it opened, surpassing previous years’ totals at this stage.
