1 in 5 Americans at Risk of Losing Wi-Fi Speeds: FCC Spectrum Auction Looms

According to a recent development, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is poised to auction off valuable spectrum, potentially disrupting Wi-Fi speeds and affecting millions of Americans. The law signed by President Trump allocates the 800 MHz from the 6 GHz band, currently used for new Wi-Fi speeds, to be licensed to major carriers like AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile.

This move could have significant implications, as approximately 20% of American households rely on this spectrum for their internet connectivity. The FCC may need to reassign existing Wi-Fi or Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) frequencies to fulfill the congressional mandate. WISPA, a representative organization for small internet service providers, warns that most of its member networks use CBRS/6GHz for rural broadband initiatives.

The statistics are stark: 20% of American households could be affected by this spectrum auction, highlighting the potential impact on millions of people’s daily lives. As the FCC moves forward with this plan, it remains to be seen how this will affect the nation’s internet infrastructure and the communities that rely on it.

The FCC should really stop auctioning off spectrum. Auctioning off spectrum is a strategy that could make it unfair and bid over other carriers that need the spectrum. What the fcc could do is give equal amounts of the spectrum distributed between the 3 carriers.

Spectrum is the invisible highway which powers our communications services – and it is a public asset worth billions. Telcos pay good money to use this valuable asset, but their licences will soon expire. Instead of holding an auction in accordance as we have done for

Then came 2017: Congress repealed FCC broadband privacy rules before they even took effect. Those rules would have required ISPs to get your opt-in before sharing your: • Browsing history • App usage • Location • Health app traffic Gone.

You need to contact your state reps and tell them to leave 6ghz and 3.55 GHz (WiFi and CBRS) alone
