$1.2 Billion Forecast: IMAX Sees Record Revenue Growth

IMAX is poised for a record-breaking year, forecasting $1.2 billion in global revenue for 2025, a 33% increase from the previous year. This surge is largely attributed to Hollywood’s recovery, with major franchise films scheduled for release from studios like Warner Bros., Disney/Marvel, Universal, and Amazon. Notably, IMAX benefited significantly from the Chinese film “Ne Zha 2”, which generated $170 million.

The company’s CEO, Rich Gelfond, attributes this growth to the success of specific films, such as Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer”, which features custom-developed cameras. IMAX tickets typically cost slightly more than standard movie tickets, but analysts predict better margins in 2025 due to higher-quality title signings and marketing campaigns.

With a global presence of 1,700 screens, including 400 in North America, IMAX plans to expand its reach by building an additional 500 screens. Upcoming films like “Superman” and “Fantastic Four: First Steps” are expected to contribute to this growth.

F1 movie is having the most insane IMAX run.All theatres, all timings, full. Even Oppenheimer was not this crazy. I’ll try to get Superman first show to make up for this silly fumble of missing F1 in IMAX. Hope Bruckheimer and Kosinski push for a rerun after Superman.

20% of its domestic opening weekend gross coming from IMAX screens…that 10 minute Coogler video really was one of the most brilliant pieces of marketing in recent memory.
