In a significant financial turnaround, Telegram, the popular messaging app, has announced it is now profitable. The company’s founder, Pavel Durov, revealed that Telegram’s total revenue exceeded $1 billion in 2024. This achievement comes after the introduction of a premium subscription service in 2022, which now boasts 12 million paid users. The app is also concluding the year with over $500 million in cash reserves, not including its cryptocurrency holdings. Durov highlighted that the company has managed to repay a substantial portion of its $2 billion debt this fall, taking advantage of favorable bond prices. Despite these financial successes, Durov emphasized that there is still much work to be done. Telegram, with over 950 million monthly active users, has expanded its offerings to include business features, an ad revenue sharing service, and a mini app store, aiming for future profitability and a potential public offering.
