Chip Kelly’s 35.7 Points Per Game at Ohio State Lands Him Raiders OC Role

Chip Kelly, aged 61, has been appointed as the offensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders, returning to the NFL after a stint in college football. Previously, he served as the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach for Ohio State, where his team averaged 35.7 points per game, culminating in a 14-2 season and a national championship win with a 34-23 victory over Notre Dame. Before Ohio State, Kelly was head coach at UCLA for six seasons, achieving a 35-34 record. His last NFL role was in 2016 as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, where he had a 2-14 record. Kelly also coached the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013-15, with a 26-21 record and one playoff appearance. His hiring completes the Raiders’ coordinator staff under new head coach Pete Carroll, who retained Patrick Graham and Tom McMahon. The Raiders, with significant draft capital and cap space, are looking to bolster their offense, which includes first-team All-Pro tight end Brock Bowers and receiver Jakobi Meyers.
