The Miami Hurricanes are focusing on Duke’s associate head coach, Jai Lucas, for their head coaching vacancy. Lucas, 36, has been with Duke since 2022 and was promoted to associate head coach in 2023. He’s known for his defensive strategies, with Duke ranking No. 4 nationally in KenPom’s defensive efficiency ratings and No. 1 in 2-point field goal percentage allowed. Under Lucas, Duke’s defense has consistently ranked in the top 20. Lucas has also made a name for himself as one of the country’s top recruiters, contributing to Duke’s top-two recruiting classes in 2023, 2024, and 2025. He played a significant role in recruiting the Boozer twins for the 2025 class. Miami, currently struggling with a 6-21 record, is looking to replace Jim Larranaga, who stepped down after 14 seasons.
