Meta’s 5% Workforce Cut: A Statistical Shift Towards AI and Efficiency

In a strategic pivot towards AI and efficiency, Meta plans to reduce its workforce by 5% in 2025. This decision, announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, targets the company’s lowest performers, aiming to replace them with new talent. The cuts will affect over 3,600 employees from Meta’s current 72,000-strong workforce. The process involves a more rigorous performance management system, with notifications to affected employees by February 10, who will receive generous severance packages. This move follows previous layoffs in 2023, where 10,000 and 11,000 employees were let go, highlighting Meta’s ongoing efforts to streamline operations. Zuckerberg noted that these reductions have historically led to increased productivity and faster execution of priorities, making the company more attractive to top talent.
