Judd Apatow, at the 77th Annual Directors Guild of America Awards, humorously criticized the film “It Ends With Us,” which grossed over $1 billion, making it the highest-grossing movie musical of all time. Apatow’s jest was in reference to the ongoing legal battle between the film’s stars, Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni in December 2024, alleging inappropriate behavior on set. Baldoni responded with his own lawsuit in January 2025. The legal drama escalated when Baldoni’s crisis PR team sued Lively for defamation. Lively’s legal team responded, calling the lawsuit a publicity stunt and retaliation. The initial lawsuit claimed Baldoni’s behavior caused Lively severe emotional distress. Following the allegations, Baldoni’s production company was dropped by WME, and his podcast cohost left the show. Baldoni also filed a $250 million lawsuit against The New York Times for alleged misrepresentation in their reporting.
