Geno Auriemma Ties Record with 627 AP Top 25 Appearances

UConn coach Geno Auriemma has now tied Tara VanDerveer for the most appearances with one school in the women’s basketball AP Top 25. Both coaches have led their teams to 627 appearances in the poll. VanDerveer achieved this mark at Stanford before retiring and also had Ohio State ranked 27 times. Auriemma has 1,224 career victories after UConn’s recent win over Providence. The AP Top 25 poll remained largely unchanged with UCLA, South Carolina, and Notre Dame holding the top three spots. UCLA received 30 of the 32 first-place votes, with South Carolina and Notre Dame each getting one. The top 18 teams stayed the same, with the top three teams winning their games by an average of nearly 41 points. Maryland, ranked eighth, remained unbeaten after defeating Michigan State 72-66. Oklahoma and Ohio State completed the top 10. South Carolina extended its home winning streak to 65 games, nearing the top five all-time home streaks. The Southeastern Conference leads with eight teams in the poll, followed by the Big Ten with seven, the ACC with six, the Big 12 with three, and the Big East with one.
