Cyberattack on X: Over 40,000 Users Impacted, Musk Suspects Ukraine

Elon Musk, the owner of X, has suggested that a cyberattack causing outages on his social media platform might have originated from Ukraine. He mentioned that the attack came from “IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area,” but admitted there’s no concrete evidence. The attack, which Musk described as “massive,” affected tens of thousands of users globally, with over 40,000 reporting issues. The outages were particularly severe in the US, Switzerland, and other regions. Musk speculated that the attack could be the work of a large, coordinated group or even a country, given the resources involved. This incident comes at a time when DDOS attacks have seen a significant increase, with a notable spike in 2025 due to a massive botnet in the US. Despite the platform’s official support channel being silent, X’s AI chatbot, Grok, confirmed the DDOS attack theory while also mentioning other possible motives.
