75% of $42.45 Billion Broadband Fund at Risk: Shocking Shift from Fiber to Satellite!

The US government’s $42.45 billion Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program faces a significant shift. Originally set to prioritize fiber Internet networks, the program may now fund Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite Internet. This change could strand rural Americans with inferior Internet access. Evan Feinman, former director of BEAD, warned that this move might enrich Musk at the expense of rural connectivity. Feinman’s term ended abruptly, and he expressed disappointment over not seeing the project through. The exact extent of the shift from fiber to satellite remains unclear, but any change could negatively impact rural and small-town America. Feinman highlighted the risk of ill-considered changes leading to detrimental outcomes for broadband access in these areas.

8/ And if renewables tank during low wind or high demand? No Onslow, no buffer—grid collapse in a minute. Your NZ$2 billion BlackRock fund (ACC/KiwiSaver) skims NZ$30–40 million/year for “green” projects—still untraced—while industry skates and you get the landfill. 8/13
