The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Brendan Carr has highlighted a significant hesitation among European companies regarding Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite Internet service. Carr emphasized that 80% of these companies are still considering whether to partner with Starlink. He warned that Europe faces a critical choice between aligning with US or Chinese technology. Carr pointed out the potential risks of choosing Chinese technology, stating, “If you’re concerned about Starlink, just wait for the CCP’s version, then you’ll be really worried.” In the UK, telecom giants BT and Virgin Media O2 are among those trialing Starlink’s technology for mobile and broadband services, though neither has committed fully. Carr’s comments come amidst concerns over the long-term implications of technological alliances, with a looming divide between countries aligned with the Chinese Communist Party and others in fields like artificial intelligence and satellite technology.
