Coinbase, a major crypto exchange, has successfully secured a spot on the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) crypto register, becoming the largest exchange to do so. This achievement allows Coinbase to offer both cryptocurrency and cash services to UK investors and traders. The process to gain registration is rigorous, with only 14% of applicants succeeding. Coinbase’s UK CEO, Keith Grose, highlighted that this registration opens up new opportunities for product launches and services. Previously, through its subsidiary CB Payments Ltd., Coinbase provided e-money services since 2018 but not direct crypto services. Now, with the new registration, CB Payments Ltd. can offer crypto services directly. This registration also enables Coinbase to communicate directly with the FCA about its plans, including discussions on staking and the future of stablecoins in the UK.
