75 Days to Save TikTok: Trump’s Executive Order Delays Enforcement

President Trump recently signed an executive order that delays the enforcement of a national security law against TikTok for 75 days. This law, upheld by the Supreme Court, requires TikTok’s US operations to either shut down or be sold to a non-foreign adversary. The delay aims to explore a resolution that safeguards national security while preserving a platform utilized by 170 million Americans. ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, is actively seeking non-sale options to comply with US legislation. Despite the law’s requirements, ByteDance board member Bill Ford expressed optimism at the World Economic Forum about finding a solution that avoids selling TikTok. This could involve a local change of control. Previously, efforts like Project Texas under Biden to isolate US TikTok data from ByteDance failed, leading to the current legislative push.
