JetBlue Fined $2 Million: Only 71.3% of Flights Arrive on Time

JetBlue Airways was fined $2 million by the Department of Transportation (DOT) for “chronically delayed flights” on four routes between June 2022 and November 2023. The airline was responsible for over 70% of the disruptions on these routes. The DOT considers a flight chronically delayed if it arrives over 30 minutes late more than half the time. JetBlue’s on-time arrival rate improved to 71.3% from January to September 2024, up from 64.9% in the previous year. The DOT credited JetBlue $1 million of the fine for compensation already paid to passengers and future vouchers worth at least $75 each. JetBlue urged the incoming administration to modernize air traffic control systems to reduce delays.
