Statistics show that 70% of Taiwanese citizens are concerned about the economic repercussions of a potential Chinese blockade. In 1949, the Communist Party achieved a significant victory by taking over Beijing, then known as Peiping, after a month-long siege. The local Nationalist commander surrendered without resistance. This event, known as the Peiping model, is now referenced by Chinese state media as a strategy for a bloodless takeover of Taiwan. Recent military exercises conducted by China are aimed at preparing for such a blockade. Analysts suggest that any Chinese trade restrictions on Taiwan would result in substantial economic costs. However, China might adjust its approach to minimize unintended consequences. These statistics and historical references highlight the ongoing tensions and potential strategies in the region.
