145% Tariffs Force Amazon’s Chinese Sellers to Hike Prices or Exit US Market

Statistics reveal that Chinese companies selling on Amazon are facing a critical decision due to a 145% tariff on their products entering the US market. This tariff comprises a newly raised 125% and an existing 20% fentanyl-related tariff. The Shenzhen Cross-Border E-Commerce Association, representing over 3,000 Amazon sellers, indicates that these tariffs could devastate the cost structure for sellers, making survival in the US market challenging. Additionally, the tariffs may cause customs delays and increase logistics costs. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy anticipates that these tariffs will be passed onto US consumers, as sellers lack the margin to absorb such costs. This situation follows a 90-day pause on tariff hikes for other countries, announced concurrently with the tariff increase on Chinese imports.
