Xavier Lucas, a cornerback from Wisconsin, has transferred to Miami without entering the transfer portal. Lucas, who had 12 tackles, an interception, and a sack as a freshman, announced his transfer plans in December. Despite Wisconsin not entering his name into the portal, Lucas has unenrolled and will play for Miami. His lawyer, Darren Heitner, stated that Lucas had an agreement with Wisconsin contingent on the approval of the House settlement, which would allow schools to pay players directly for their name, image, and likeness. Lucas has not received any money from Wisconsin and owes nothing to the school. The NCAA clarified that its rules do not prevent a student-athlete from transferring and competing immediately.
