EpiWatch, a company spun out from Johns Hopkins, has received FDA 510(k) clearance for its seizure monitoring platform on the Apple Watch. The app specifically targets tonic-clonic seizures, which affect the entire brain and can cause violent muscle contractions and loss of consciousness. The platform not only detects these seizures but also reminds users to take their medication, identifies seizure triggers, screens for depression and anxiety, and allows for seizure logging. This development is part of a long-term collaboration with Johns Hopkins Medicine using Apple’s ResearchKit. EpiWatch plans a limited market release to optimize the product and understand user needs better. In related news, Google’s Pixel Watch 3 received FDA clearance for its AI-enabled loss of pulse detection technology. Apple also secured FDA clearance for sleep apnea detection in its Watch Series 10 and over-the-counter hearing aid software in AirPods Pro, which uses a five-minute test to adjust to users’ hearing needs.

– to predict the onset of seizures
– or at least to detect a seizure and alert carers
Now EpiWatch has made a small step towards these directions by getting a 510(k) clearance for its Apple Watch-powered seizure

My lockdown wasnon so she would call back so I could give her access.
