82nd Golden Globes: 40% of Nominees Left Empty-Handed

The 82nd Annual Golden Globes, held on January 5, 2025, in Beverly Hills, California, was a night of surprises and standout moments. Nikki Glaser, the first woman to solo host the event, delivered a memorable opening monologue, humorously targeting celebrities like Glen Powell and Timothe Chalamet. The awards show saw “Emilia Prez” from Netflix leading with 10 nominations, while “The Brutalist” followed with seven. Despite the high number of nominations, 40% of the nominees, including “Only Murders in the Building” and “Nobody Wants This,” left without any wins. “Emilia Prez” dominated, securing four awards, including Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. “The Brutalist” also shone, winning three major categories. On the television side, “Shgun” was the big winner, taking home four awards. The event was not just about the awards; it featured emotional speeches, like Demi Moore’s heartfelt acceptance for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, and light-hearted moments from presenters Catherine O’Hara and Seth Rogen.
