In a recent analysis, over 8,000 U.S. government web pages have been taken down since Friday. The New York Times conducted a study, downloading the list of the most visited government domains and compiling a comprehensive list of pages using each site’s sitemap. This analysis covered more than 150 sites, identifying over seven million pages. The study was repeated several times over the weekend to track changes. The bulk of the removals included about 3,000 pages from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, another 3,000 from the Census Bureau, and 1,000 from the Office of Justice Programs. Some sites like state.gov and weather.gov were excluded due to technical issues in identifying their complete web pages.
