The exemption is a significant relief for major tech companies such as Apple, Nvidia, and Microsoft. About 80 percent of Apple’s iPhones are manufactured in China, primarily at a large factory complex in Zhengzhou run by Foxconn. Despite efforts to diversify production to India, the majority of iPhone production remains in China. The US had already exempted semiconductors and pharmaceuticals from these tariffs, but a separate probe into potential tariffs on chips is underway. The US retains a 10 percent tariff on most trading partners.

Apr 12 Trump just blinked. Here’s a list of Chinese electronic products that he exempted from tariffs, late last evening. So, no. You’re not going to have to pay double for your next mobile phone or tablet. He’s also just exposed to Beijing exactly where our trade weaknesses are.

23h Well, well, well.US customs messaging note quietly slipped out last night shows that smartphones, the number 1 Chinese export to the US by value last year, exempted from the 125% tariff… alongside chips, processors, wafers, lcd panels, LEDs etc…8517.13.00.00
