Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr has accused Comcast of “news distortion” due to its subsidiary NBC’s coverage of the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Carr claims that Comcast’s reporting misled 50% of Americans by implying that Abrego Garcia was a law-abiding U.S. citizen. According to Carr, Abrego Garcia illegally entered the U.S. from El Salvador, was identified as a member of the MS-13 gang, and was denied bond by an immigration court. Carr’s accusations are based on the FCC’s news distortion policy, which has been enforced in only the most extreme cases, such as instances of bribery or direct orders to distort news. A 1985 ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit emphasized that the policy distinguishes between deliberate distortion and mere inaccuracy or differing opinions.

Trump’s FCC chair is threatening Comcast for broadcasting any news outlets that tell the truth about Garcia’s case instead of the blatant lies peddled by the admin, and there are somehow still centrists calling this a “trap” for Dems instead of recognizing how weak they are.
